Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, the Specialist, Payroll & People Support is responsible for the timely maintenance, preparation and updating of people information and backup for payroll processing. This individual will perform activities related to the processing of a full range of people and payroll related transactions for employees, such as providing copies of required documents, submitting inquiries to appropriate departments, and following up on pending items. In partnership with the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, they will maintain records and prepare reports related to employee compliance and perform advanced technical and administrative record keeping essential for MCI compliance standards and requirements. 


Essential Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Support full cycle Payroll, Benefits and Pension for all levels of the organization. 
    • Support activities include processing payroll and related reporting, as well as benefits and pension administration activities. 
  • Process full cycle hourly employee payroll and provide back up support for salary and International Service Employee payrolls and payroll related process maintenance.
    • Share efficiencies, payroll policy recommendations and improvement opportunities with the Payroll leader and People & Culture team.
    • Support people reporting, payroll reporting and analytics. 
  • Support the ISE (International Service Employees) program and related administrative activities.  
  • Lead and coordinate the People and Culture Retiree program with proactive analysis, planning and administration needs. 
  • Responsible for all payroll/benefits people administration activities within the HCM (Human Capital Management) system (e.g., new hire data entry and audit, offboarding).
    • Provide exceptional communication and service to employees, support training efforts, assist employees with people related items and advise them as required regarding policies, programs, and procedures as well as assisting and/or leading various projects within the People & Culture team. 


Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required):
  • Post-secondary education in Payroll, Human Resources, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience working in full cycle payroll across Canada including Quebec.
  • Knowledge and experience with UKG Pro is an asset. 
  • NPI (National Payroll Institute) PCP Designation (or in progress) is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of provincial employment standards including Quebec. 
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, ability to multi-task and prioritize work, sometimes with conflicting priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to build solid relationships with a strong focus on customer experience and anticipating needs.
  • Displays high integrity with a positive and “leads by example” attitude. 
  • Must be able to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent judgement and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong analytical and technical skills (learning and using technological systems) with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player mentality: Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, and outside vendors.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft applications and Adobe.
