The Financial Accountant located in Richmond Hill office will be on a hybrid work arrangement and reporting to the National Manager, Accounting & Internal Control.

This position will support month-end close activities to meet Mazda Corporation deadlines. The individual will also participate in on-going projects to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of our accounting system, as well provide support to new business initiatives. The incumbent will also support internal/external audit, treasury and other compliance activities.

Essential Duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Preparation of account reconciliations and journal entries for Account Receivables, Prepaid, Extended Warranty and Vehicles
  • Managing Accounts Receivable (AR) close process and assisting with the publishing of monthly Dealer Statements.
  • Monthly analysis of account variances, investigate and advise on unusual variances, follow up and escalate when necessary.
  • Preparation & submission of basic forecast and budget analysis to National Manager, Accounting & Internal Control for review and submit data to Mazda Corporation.
  • Support on-going accounting/business process improvement projects
  • Support on-going new business initiatives
  • Support in Treasury Activities including bank deposits and petty cash management
  • Preparation of bank covenants and key financial ratios and ensure compliance
  • Support sales tax and other compliance reporting
  • Support internal/external audit by gathering evidence and guide process walkthroughs

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required):
  • Completed post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Finance/Accounting, automotive related experience is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and processes
  • Demonstration of independent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Detailed-oriented, high level of data input accuracy
  • Self-motivated, easily adaptive to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office with superior Microsoft Excel skills is a must
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred
