Specialist/Senior Specialist, Product Planning

The Specialist/Senior Specialist, Product Planning will play a key role in coordinating and completing product analysis and developing subsequent recommendations through the continuous evaluation of competitive positioning, maintenance of key product reference tools and reports, and a close following of emerging consumer and market trends. This position will be responsible for corresponding frequently with Mazda Canada’s (MCI) parent company Mazda Motor Corporation (MC), headquartered in Hiroshima, Japan and for completing associated assignments and studies as they arise.
 
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
 
  • Preparation of product analysis and market equations using current product plans and assumptions for the continuous evaluation of competitive positioning by utilizing tools such as AutoPlanner (AutoData), PIN (JD Power), IHS Markit CFI data cube, Maritz mTab, competitive cycle plan information and competitive websites and literature
  • Work collaboratively with Sales and Marketing team to gather key departmental input to complete a holistic market equation representing Mazda Canada’s desired market positioning such as pricing and contenting strategies for MC consideration and approval
  • Evaluate and respond to MC assignments and correspondence by researching information, coordinating internally and drafting quality responses that clearly convey market and profit-based rationale
  • Craft and publish department bulletins, specifications & features decks, vehicle price lists, as well as other product related communications and resource documents
  • Review market and consumer trends by researching and analyzing industry publications, tools, and reports to assist in maximizing the success of MCI’s product positioning
  • Ensure critical tools such as value analysis templates, trim mix reports and competitive cycle plans remain current and in top working order for the purpose of efficient and accurate analysis
  • Act as product liaison and ambassador by effectively responding to the requests and requirements of both internal and external origins
  • Support Marketing, Public Relations, and Brand Engagement business areas on reviews for product correctness for the purpose of website, brochure creation, dealer and consumer facing deliverables, and to make suggestions to improve these deliverables where needed or opportunity presents
  • Maintain and develop strategic relationships with key business partners (Bose, SiriusXM, etc.)
 
 
 
 
 
Qualifications (experience, knowledge & skills required):
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Prior corporate automotive experience is preferred
  • Analytical capability, and a commitment to accuracy of work created are key skills required for this position
  • Superior ability to interpret and create highly detailed analysis as well as the capability to strategically forward plan and effectively communicate sound conclusions/recommendations
  • Strong communication skills both orally and written, for use with team members, Senior Management, dealer partners and vendors
  • Ability to work well unsupervised, while being able to prioritize and manage timelines towards deadlines, along with simultaneously progressing long-term projects through various milestones/phases to full delivery
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills
  • High level of Microsoft Office competence; with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Bilingualism in English & French is preferred, but is not required
